Château Saint-André-Corbin, whose high reputation has long been established, deserves the following brief historical reminder, drawn from the work of Raymond Guinodie, the very precise and conscientious historian of Libourne, as well as from that of Camille Jullian, who enjoys all the authority attaching to his works: these historians share the opinion that the Gallo-Roman villa “Lucaniacus”, property of the consul Ausonius, Bordeaux’s glory of the 4th century, stood on the site of the place now called “Saint-André-Corbin”, commune of Saint-Georges. It was on the land of this place that, following excavations carried out in 1843, Gallo-Roman remains of great value were unearthed, such as Venus, Diana, etc. And we know, from the writings of Ausonius, who was also a delicate poet, that he sent to Rome, for the table of the Caesars, the wines of his vineyard …
Through careful methods of cultivation and vinification, the Saby family, owner of many growths in the Libournais, obtains an average annual harvest of 111 barrels, on a clay-limestone soil, of an extremely generous, supple and fragrant wine.
The grape varieties are 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vineyard is 60 years over about 19 hectares. The harvest is by hand. The wine is then aged in barrels.
Particular attention is paid to detail in caring for the vineyard. Considered work on the soil/plant balance makes it possible to produce a concentrated wine with moderate yields.
