Château Campet nestles in the middle of an adorable little vineyard. The 18th-century building has a thoroughly endearing profile. The origin of the wine estate goes back more than a century; it appears in its rightful place in the 1868 edition of Bordeaux et ses Vins. Since 2003 this property has joined the club of the Castel châteaux.
Château Campet sets its vineyard on one of the finest terroirs of the region. The soils, particularly favourable to the production of great wines, are mostly formed on hillsides. This formidable heritage makes it possible to produce wines of great purity and fine elegance. With grape varieties traditional for this bank of the estuary, château Campet has a distribution in which Merlot dominates, but where Cabernet Sauvignon finds its full place.
The making of the wines is in the image of the château: the “human-scale” vat room allows fine and delicate vinifications. Fermentations are conducted in the traditional way, with however a hot post-fermentation maceration that allows a very fine extraction of body. Ageing combines French oak barrels and vats to bring out the fruity and elegant character of the wine.
Paul Parlange took charge of château Campet during the 2005 vintage. He is one of the youngest stewards of the Castel châteaux and estates. Discreet, he is committed to living as close as possible to his property, showcasing the qualities of its terroir. But he also has a precise idea of what he wants for his own production. When asked what his ideal wine is, the answer comes at once: “fairly concentrated, a fine dense colour, a balanced and empyreumatic oak”. Always in search of excellence, Paul Parlange is dedicated to helping this up-and-coming growth grow. To make it “enter the court of the great…”.
