Château Lascombes

Arrival of the new director and oenologist

Mr Axel Heinz has just signed his very first vintage at Lascombes with the 2023.

Born in Munich to a mother from Bordeaux, Axel Heinz developed his passion for wine in this wine region that he loves.
Having studied agronomy with a specialisation in viticulture and oenology in Bordeaux, he gained his first winemaking experience at estates in the Médoc and in Saint-Émilion. In 2005, he became oenologist, then director, of Ornellaia and Masseto in Tuscany. The Lawrence and Carlton McCoy Jr families, the Château’s new owners, have complete confidence in him for the missions just entrusted to him.

They are delighted to have at the head of Lascombes a great specialist who propelled Ornellaia and Masseto to the heights. Axel Heinz is delighted to have the mission of bringing Château Lascombes to the level of the greatest crus. After 18 years spent in Tuscany, he is happy to be coming home and says, “That everything will be done: precise and respectful viticulture and winemaking, refocusing on the heart of the Lascombes terroir, draconian selection and reduction of the volume of grand vin, as well as a new look reflecting the prestige of the cru…”
For Axel Heinz, the main idea now “is to express the great Médoc classicism while respecting the identity of the cru”.

Château La Rose Figeac

The little “novelty”

Why the arrival of amphorae at La Rose Figeac?
‍
“Not for decoration, although they are very pretty in my cellar, I admit, and even less for fashion… Let’s not forget that this vessel has existed for 6,000 years; we haven’t invented anything! The reason for this choice is simple. Five years ago, for a particular cause, I produced ‘Le Bouquet de La Rose Figeac’, for which I wanted even more fruit than I had had until then. The amphora seemed to me the right object, and I confirm it. The result meets my expectations entirely, so much so that I can’t wait to tell you what comes next, I am so delighted!” (Nathalie Despagne).
