Clos du Portail

M. Labat, who stands out in Barsac with his château Menota, farms château Montgarède in Illats; it is the fourth generation of Labats distinguishing itself on this property, which straddles the communes of Illats and Landiras.
The soil, clay-limestone but with some gravelly plots, gives an elegant, characterful red Graves.
M. Labat also produces a Graves Supérieures, château des Peyrères, fragrant and unctuous, from a 25-hectare vineyard in the same commune.
The family picture would be incomplete if one omitted château Ménate (A.O.C. Sauternes) and Clos du Portail (A.O.C. Graves).
