The estate

In brief

The vineyard is the union of two properties, one acquired in 1892 by Joseph Brisson, the Domaine des Grands Champs at Trotanoy, the other acquired in 1949, Château Vray Croix de Gay at the place known as La Croix de Gay. Its name comes from the old cross located on the edge of the property, which once marked a stage on the Saint James of Compostela pilgrimage route. In 1936 the owner of the time christened the wine Vray Croix de Gay to differentiate it from the neighbours who had registered the name Croix de Gay before him.
The 3.67-hectare property is thus made up of two main plots located on the high plateau of Pomerol, one behind La Fleur, the other between Trotanoy and Le Pin.
Farming is sustainable, the work in the vineyard is optimised on the basis of agro-pedological studies, vinification is plot by plot, and the facilities were renovated in 2001 and 2002 (small temperature-controlled vats).
The wine is aged in barrels, half of them new. A plot near Rouget and its young vines produce an easy-drinking “fruit” wine from the first years: L’Enchanteur de la Vray Croix de Gay.
Everything is done to produce authentic wines that reflect the gravel-clay soil, very typical of the Pomerol plateau. This rich and silky wine with aromas of truffle and violet is a little jewel of its appellation.
