In the 3rd edition of “Bordeaux et Ses Vins” (1874), Édouard Féret wrote the following about this property: “20 hectares, situated among the finest gravelly hilltops in Saint-Julien, form the vineyard of Château Teynac, classified as a second fourth growth in the official classification of 1834”. At the end of the 19th century, it was attached to Château Saint-Pierre (classified 4th growth in 1855) by Léon Sevaistre, who owned both vineyards, before reverting to its original identity when it came into the Gauthier family. In 1990, it became the property of the Pairault family, and Philippe Pairault, a demanding and rigorous winegrower, worked alongside the estate manager. Traditional methods of cultivation (ploughing), manual harvesting with selective picking, careful vinification and ageing in barrels of selected origin and toast have produced wines rich in colour and fine, distinguished tannins, which have earned Château Teynac numerous awards and the enthusiastic recognition of many wine-lovers. From 1996 onwards, Teynac produced a great wine of excellent quality. The 1998 and 1999 vintages are on a par with the best Bourgeois wines, and the vineyards of Château Les Ormes have been added to the estate, vinified separately and marketed under this name. From the 2009 vintage onwards, the arrival of a talented young winemaker reflects the estate’s new, very determined approach to quality, making Château Teynac one of the benchmarks for Saint-Julien: not to be missed or discovered… Since 1990, E.A.R.L. Teynac & Corconnac has also managed Château Corconnac in Saint-Laurent du Médoc. This cru has been listed in the Féret under its current name since 1868. The same concern for quality guides the Pairault family team in making the wines from this estate.
