The estate

In brief

Château Taillefer is the first wine property acquired by the Moueix family, in 1923. An elegant residence of classical architecture, its origin is very ancient, since the maps of the geographer-engineer Pierre Belleyme show it surrounded by vines as early as 1764.
Located in the heart of a 12-hectare vineyard, Taillefer enjoys a privileged exposure on the south slope of the Pomerol plateau. The sand-gravel soil, particularly rich in iron residues, is the origin of its name. The grape varieties are 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Adjusted pruning and judicious leaf removal and thinning make it possible to harvest perfectly healthy grapes.
The greatest attention is paid to the harvest: hand picking, sorting table and plot selection, among others. To express the full quintessence of Taillefer, the vinification techniques aim to respect the characteristics of the terroir and to reveal the potential of each vintage. Taillefer is aged for 15 months in tall-forest oak casks from central France.
Now owned by the children of Bernard Moueix, Château Taillefer is frequently rewarded with medals at tasting competitions. Enthusiasts appreciate the complex structure of this elegant and generous cru, with its dark colour and rich bouquet. Its exceptional ageing ability makes Château Taillefer one of the most renowned crus of Pomerol.
