This property, today called Puy Bardens, was formerly named the Domaine de Piis, after the Spanish Pinos family who owned it before the 17th century. It then belonged to the Larcebault family, Bordeaux burghers, one of whom was, in 1639, First Consul of that city and then Jurat in 1652.
In 1864, the house, which was modest in appearance, was transformed by Doctor Barincou into a small castle which has kept all its authenticity today. From the top of the hillsides overlooking the Garonne, it offers the viewer a magnificent panorama of the valley, the Graves vineyard on the opposite bank, and the Landes forest.
After being run by M. Yves Lamiable, this property, which has managed to keep all its authenticity, was bought in 2010 by the Bonfils family, grower-owners since 1870, historically based in Languedoc-Roussillon and also owners of château Coucy, in the Montagne Saint-Émilion AOC.
The vineyard is ideally exposed, on gravel-clay land with friable stone in the subsoil.
Combining traditional methods and modern techniques, after a controlled fermentation and a long maceration carried out with the greatest rigour, the wine is aged in vats and new barrels for 8 to 14 months, then kept in bottle in a perfectly temperate storage cellar.
When young, it is generous and loaded with fruit aromas; older, it refines to become complex and delicate, and each bottle reflects the characteristics of a quality terroir and the owner’s love of wine.
In the warm and welcoming reception and tasting room, everything has been done so that a visit to château Puy Bardens remains an enchanting and unforgettable memory.
