Château Macquin and the Domaine de Maisonneuve were acquired by Albert Macquin in 1885. A graduate of the first Institut Agronomique in Paris, Albert Macquin had a thorough knowledge of grafting onto American rootstock. He was to perfect this technique in his Maisonneuve nurseries and to be the first craftsman of the renovation of the Gironde vineyard destroyed by phylloxera in 1875. An eminent winegrower, his work and his wines won the highest awards.
Denis Corre-Macquin, last grandson of Albert Macquin and of Édouard Corre, descendant of a long line of owner-négociants, by restructuring the vineyards of Saint-Georges, also runs Château Bellonne, A.O.C. Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion. He has maintained the tradition of his ancestors while bringing, through modern vinification, more richness to his already renowned wines: deep colour and delicate, fruity aromas characterise these three growths, which renowned tasters do not hesitate to compare with the best Saint-Émilion grands crus.
The heirs of Albert Macquin also own Château Pavie-Macquin in Saint-Émilion.
