The estate

In brief

Château Loupiac-Gaudiet and Château Pontac were the property of the Montaigne family.
One of its descendants sold it, on 15 Messidor Year XII, to M. Bidot-Naude, maternal great-grandfather of M. Reinhold-Dézeimeris, former president of the Conseil général de la Gironde and corresponding member of the Institut, who received it as an inheritance. A distinguished winegrower, at the time when phylloxera destroyed the Gironde vineyard, he turned this property into an experimental field that rendered the greatest services to viticulture.
For 4 generations, it has belonged to the family of Marc Ducau. The vineyard is located around the château, well exposed to the south, on the hillsides overlooking the Garonne, next to the magnificent 12th-century Romanesque church. The particular climate of this region, with its morning mists and sunny autumn afternoons, allows the development of Botrytis cinerea. The result is a wine which, under a fine golden colour, is delicate, unctuous and very fruity. The grapes are traditionally picked by hand in successive passes as soon as Botrytis cinerea appears.
Vinification, to which MM. Ducau and Sanfourche give their careful attention, is carried out according to traditional processes, while using certain modern methods such as temperature control during fermentation. After 2 years of ageing, the wine is bottled and reserved for private customers, and for cellars and fine restaurants both in France and abroad.
The wines of Château Loupiac-Gaudiet have won numerous gold medals in the various exhibitions in which they have appeared.
