Château Le Tuquet is situated on gravelly soil with a clay-limestone subsoil. A vast, classical estate, the Tuquet estate already featured on Belleyme’s royal maps. The Charterhouse was built at the beginning of the 18th century, on a beautiful site that has been preserved to this day. The south-facing facade, built by Victor Louis, overlooks the Gat-Mort valley and offers a picturesque view of the valley with its pond and tall trees, and beyond to the Gironde moors. At the end of the 19th century, the estate belonged to the family of Father de Foucauld. For him, Le Tuquet was a haven of peace and reflection. Passed down several times at the turn of the century, Le Tuquet was bought by the Journel family in 2022, on their return from 11 years abroad in Canada, to form Domaines de la Parrhesia with neighbouring Château Couloumey.
Passionate about their profession, the Journels completely restructured the vineyard using methods that were highly respectful of the environment: mechanised tillage, permaculture, setting up beehives and planting melliferous fallow land for pollinators, setting up nesting boxes for chickadees and bats to combat grape worms and leafhoppers, and a vitiforestry project to combat frost. They also developed wine tourism to open up the estate and share their passion with as many people as possible, and Le Tuquet saw the birth of chic picnics under the trees, with elegant baskets of local produce prepared by the lady of the house, an educational and historical walking trail and a guinguette that awaits you for a magical moment in the Chartreuse farmhouse.
