In 1707, the map by Claude Masse, geographer to King Louis XIV, confirms the existence of an old vineyard at that time.
The remains of a “villa romana” found on the property attest to the antiquity of château Lamothe-Cissac.
Likewise, Édouard Féret, in his 1868 edition, mentioned this estate as one of the principal Crus Bourgeois of the commune, producing between 70 and 90 barrels.
Château Lamothe-Cissac was gambled and lost at the Casino of Biarritz. Monsieur Fabre acquired it in 1964.
From then on, he set about restoring the whole vineyard and the farm buildings in order to present his first vintage four years later.
Today, his son, Vincent Fabre, has taken over the management of the property, thus perpetuating the family tradition. The quality of this wine, typical of the Haut-Médoc appellation, with its ruby colour and powerful aromas, combines in just balance the tannic character of Cabernet with the finesse and suppleness of Merlot.
Domaines Fabre also operate châteaux Landat in the same commune and La Tonnelle in Vertheuil, as well as château Bellevue de Tayac in the Margaux AOC.
