The smallest of the Médoc’s four communal appellations, representing just 6% of the terroir, but offering an exceptional concentration of crus classés, Saint-Julien is without doubt the heart of the Médoc. The estate of Château Lagrange, 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, whose first vines were planted in the early 16th century, stretches across a single block to the west of the appellation. Four centuries of Médoc history and a vision of uncompromising quality have spurred Château Lagrange to adapt tradition and embrace innovation in order to express its terroir, unchanged since 1855, with the utmost precision, bringing out the best in each parcel and each vintage to produce expressive, harmonious wines of the highest quality. Situated on two Günzian gravel outcrops, one of which is the highest point in the Saint-Julien appellation, the Château Lagrange vineyard covers 118 hectares in a single block. Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it is divided into more than 100 individual plots. 11 hectares planted with Sauvignon blanc, Sauvignon gris and Sémillon are also dedicated to white wine production.
