The estate

In brief

Château La Grolet is a former 17th-century noble house that retains fine architectural vestiges. Directly linked to the Romanesque church of the village of Saint-Ciers-de-Canesse by an avenue lined with centuries-old lime trees, Château La Grolet is an integral part of the local heritage. It is in a landscape worthy of the “little Switzerland of the Gironde” that the manor, austere and romantic in appearance at once, stands harmoniously, encircled by gravel-clay hillsides, well exposed to the sun and reputed among the best of the Côtes de Bourg. The château’s 28 hectares enjoy a truly exceptional location: a succession of often steep hillsides and terraces, facing due south, favouring the quality of the grapes and their full ripeness.
Moreover, Catherine and Jean-Luc Hubert cultivate their vineyards with great respect for natural balances in order to obtain wines of great typicity, elegant and with good ageing ability. The rhythm of the seasons is carefully followed here according to a traditional method of cultivation: the soil is ploughed, and the vines are earthed up and unearthed. Weedkillers are banned and treatments are limited to Bordeaux mixture and sulphur. Fed only with elements of natural origin, manure, rock dust, organic compost and green manure, the vines give Château La Grolet wines that aim to be the expression of a unique terroir.
Château La Grolet is a member of the Mouvement de Culture Biodynamique (Demeter label) and of the Renaissance des Appellations group.
