The Bertinerie vineyard is made up of 3 châteaux, family properties for more than 5 generations: château Haut Bertinerie, château Bertinerie and château Manon La Lagune, grouped together at the château Bertinerie site.
As early as 1931, Arthur Bertet, great-grandfather of Eric and Frantz Bantegnies, then owner of the vineyard, won a gold medal at the Brussels Exhibition for his production. Thirty years later, Daniel Bantegnies took over the estate, divided by successive inheritances, and restored its size, a task continued since 1987 by his two sons Eric and Frantz, always keen to produce great wines worthy of their great-grandfather.
A great wine is first of all a selection of terroirs that have appeared for centuries in the land registry of Cubnezais, Cézac and Cavignac. The rigorous plot-by-plot monitoring practised for each of the 3 châteaux guarantees both quality and consistency for the reds as for the whites.
A great wine is, finally, know-how: that of a family of winegrowers who have brought their experience of vine and wine and who are always open to new knowledge.
For since 1987, the Bantegnies family has worked with INRA to convert its entire vineyard, now cultivated in “lyre”. This vine training system has the advantage of producing grapes of very high quality, with finer, silkier and more powerful tannins.
The strict production rules and personalised monitoring of each plot, sustainable vine growing, harvesting by hand with sorting of the grapes, and finally individual monitoring of the vinification and ageing of the wines, favour both a better expression of each terroir and greater complexity in the wines, also brought by the vines grown in “lyre”.
This meticulous work from the vine to the bottling has allowed the Bantegnies family’s châteaux to be regarded among the best references of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC.
Distribution in more than 1,200 restaurants in France (including very many Michelin-starred ones) is an important guarantee of quality and reputation, as is their reach in more than 30 countries.
Château Haut Bertinerie, château Bertinerie and château Manon La Lagune are major players in their Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC.
