Château Haut-Batailley

Cinquième Grand Cru Classé en 1855
Pauillac • 40 HA

The estate

In brief

The great Batailley vineyard, acquired in the 1930s by the Borie family, was divided in the 1940s, giving birth to two growths: Château Batailley and Château Haut-Batailley. Both of these Pauillac vineyards are part of the famous 1855 classification of the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc.
Today, in order to perfect the vinification and ageing of the wines of Château Haut-Batailley, a vast investment programme has been carried out, with the construction of a new cellar and a new vat room and the complete renovation of all the old estate buildings. These achievements have made it possible to refine the production techniques of this great wine, in the same spirit as those of the other estates managed by François-Xavier Borie.
The originality of the Haut-Batailley terroir comes from its location in the south of the Pauillac appellation, on the border with Saint-Julien. The influence of this neighbourhood is felt in this growth, where one finds grace, charm and delicacy, synonymous with a femininity often less marked in Pauillac wines. This harmonious complexity gives the wine character and a great deal of personality, which blossom over the years.
