In the heart of the Barsac appellation, Château Gravas is admirably situated between two Premiers Crus Classés (Château Climens and Château Coutet).
As with many other crus, the wine-growing history of Gravas is lost in the mists of time. There are archive traces from 1740. However, it can be stated that this vineyard has belonged to the Bernard family since 1850 and that, over the years, they very quickly established a solid reputation for it.
Its area is 10.5 hectares, and the blend includes a strong majority of Sémillon (90%) with the rest Sauvignon.
The harvests are late and can sometimes last a month and a half. This is to ensure a perfect crop, picking only the ripest, over-ripe and candied grapes. As a result, production is very small, but it makes it possible to produce exceptional wines: a pale gold colour with amber glints, a complex bouquet, and on the palate a frank attack developing intense floral and fruity aromas.
The wine is aged in oak casks and is bottled only three winters after the harvest (2500 cases a year).
Sales are handled at the château. Château Gravas is exported to various countries, notably the U.S.A. and the Scandinavian countries.
