The vineyard of Château Fontis peaks at 38 metres above sea level on the highest gravel rise in the Médoc. This place, formerly known as Hontemieux, was home to an important windmill, but around 1875 the milling was carried out using “modern” steam-powered equipment.
For a long time the Faure family ruled over this vineyard, whose origins are very ancient. Then, after Alain and Bernadette Dejeans, Vincent Boivert took over the property in 1995.
The vineyard, made up of vines about twenty years old, is managed in a traditional way. Aged in vats and new barrels, the first vintage, produced by Vincent, was noticed by numerous publications (Le Point, Cuisine et Vins de France, Vins et Vignobles en France). Since then the wines of Château Fontis have continued to attract the praise and desire of discerning enthusiasts.
