In the heart of the Médoc, a medieval château, a vineyard and its people make Fontesteau a privileged place.
Built and fortified in the 13th century with hard rubble stone torn from the surrounding land, it was completely renovated in 1997.
32 ha of sand-gravel terroir over a limestone slab are planted with the noble grape varieties of the Médoc.
The harvest is by machine, allowing each plot to be picked at optimum ripeness. Vinification, traditional, takes place in a temperature-controlled stainless steel vat room. Maceration lasts 3 to 5 weeks. A large part of the harvest is aged 12 months in barrels renewed on average by 20% per year.
The estate’s first wine comes from the rigorous blending of the fruit of the best plots. Messire de Fontesteau, the second wine, is made up of the softest cuvées, which barrel ageing makes enjoyable from the first years of ageing.
