A former manor house, Château Faugas proudly stands with three towers and an old keep, offering an extraordinary panoramic view of this hilly region on the right bank of the Garonne. Built in the 13th century on the site of a Gallo-Roman site, it has belonged to several owners, two of whom have gone down in Gironde and French history: the Duc d’Épernon in the 17th century and the Marquis d’Alon in the 18th century. Continuing a long-established tradition, the current owners divide their production between Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux red (10 ha) and Premières Côtes de Bordeaux white (2 ha). The vineyard, planted on clay-limestone soil, enjoys an ideal south-facing exposure on the hillside. It is planted with noble grape varieties: for the red wines, Merlot and Cabernet, one for body, the other for bouquet; and Sémillon for the whites. The wines are matured in the traditional way. Château Faugas has won several awards at international competitions, and its wines combine power and rich aromas. The full-bodied, racy, tannic reds are great wines for laying down. The whites, rich in aroma, with their renowned bouquet and finesse, are marvellous mellows. A family-run business, Château Faugas continues a tradition of quality and excellence.
