The estate

In brief

The vineyards of Château Cantenac, with the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, are located around a pretty 19th-century residence at the forefront of the Saint-Emilion hillside. This elegant, supple wine, with its delicate, harmonious bouquet and long ageing potential, owes its characteristics to its terroir, the grape varieties used and the human hand. Its sandy, gravelly soil on clay allows the grapes to ripen very well and early. Merlot, the noble grape variety par excellence, makes up the majority of the vineyard, which is well adapted to the region’s soil and climate. The wine-making process, which is carried out with the utmost care, combines modern techniques such as temperature control with traditional techniques such as ageing in oak barrels. Nicole Roskam-Brunot, a lawyer and economist of Correze origin who grew up in Saint-Émilion, is responsible for the company’s commercial expansion and management. Her sons, Frans, Frédéric and Johan Roskam, the fourth generation to invest in this vineyard, contribute their skills. Frans as an E.S.A. Purpan engineer and oenologist and Johan as a master in management (ESC Clermont), and Frédéric as a partner. With such fairy godmothers around its cradle, it’s hardly surprising that Château Cantenac is regularly mentioned in French and foreign trade magazines. The family also manages Châteaux Moulin de Grenet in the Lussac Saint-Émilion appellation and La Lauzette-Declercq in the Haut-Médoc appellation.
