Chambre d’agriculture de la Gironde
About
As a public and professional institution, the Gironde Chamber of Agriculture brings together all the players in the agricultural world. It has two essential missions: on the one hand, a role of advice and counsel to the public authorities in the name of general agricultural interests; on the other hand, a role of intervention and more particularly of advice to farmers and communities.
From experimentation to individual advice, from vine to wine, the viticultural engineers and oenologists of the Chamber of Agriculture provide a personalized response to the needs of each professional.
CLOSE TO THE FARMERS
The advisors of the Chamber of Agriculture group are present alongside all the farmers of Gironde thanks to a local organization based on eight ADAR branches (Associations of Agricultural and Rural Development) and four oenocenters.
The ADAR offices have a dual purpose. Firstly, to implement agricultural, viticultural and rural development actions. Secondly, to provide local services to farmers: viticultural advice, technical advice, global business advice, training...
The oenocentres form an efficient local organization at the service of winegrowers. Equipped with high-performance analysis tools, they monitor more than half of the wine production in Gironde. They offer winegrowers personalized oenological support, taking into account the strategy of the farm and the expectations of consumers.

The main missions of the vine and wine department of the Gironde Chamber of Agriculture are to carry out technical actions throughout the wine industry in order to offer wine growers wines that are in line with consumers' expectations.
Its main missions are:
- The selection of the vine
The Chamber of Agriculture of Gironde has been selecting certified vine plants for nurserymen for more than 40 years. It selects the plant material best adapted to the terroir and to the production objectives of the wine growers.
It works on clonal selection, which is particularly essential for the winegrower to have clones, free of serious viruses, typical of each grape variety and whose qualitative performance expresses the varieties and originalities of the different terroirs.
- Experimentation
The Vine and Wine Department of the Chamber of Agriculture, which has been granted both BPE and Research Tax Credit approval, conducts a major experimentation program within the framework of public agreements and also on behalf of companies in the sector (CIVB, New Aquitaine Regional Council, FranceAgriMer, ISVV, Gironde Departmental Council, etc.).
Within the Vinopôle Bordeaux - Aquitaine, it deals with all issues: soil work, vine protection, agronomy, fertilization, winemaking, organic viticulture. This work aims to anticipate the future needs of winegrowers and to test innovative processes.
For more than a decade, the Gironde Chamber of Agriculture, the French Institute of Vine and Wine (IFVV) and the Bordeaux-Gironde Local Public Institution for Agricultural Education and Vocational Training (EPLEFPA) have been collaborating on applied research in viticulture and oenology with the aim of improving the competitiveness of the region's winegrowing operations and together they form the Vinopôle Bordeaux-Aquitaine.
In 2020, these three structures formalized their collaboration by joining forces within the Vinopôle Bordeaux-Aquitaine and were joined by the Conseil interprofessionnel du vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) and the Interprofession des vins de Bergerac et Duras (IVBD).
The Vinopôle's roadmap is organized around 5 main areas:
- Climate change and agro-ecology at the heart of this new dynamic: evaluation of the agronomic and oenological potential of resistant varieties, analysis of new prophylactic measures, creation of an experimental vineyard and a technological hall...
- Reduction of inputs: experimentation of new alternative methods to phytosanitary products, research on soil management to reduce the use of herbicides and chemical fertilizers.
- The adaptation of product profiles to consumer expectations.
- The economic sustainability of the farms: creation of different decision-making tools, particularly with a view to changing practices.
- Training: training winegrowers and young people to build the viticulture of tomorrow .
