The name château Grand-Puy-Lacoste evokes the privileged position of its great vineyard on the heights of Pauillac, where the château stands out amid its vines.
Selected for the famous classification of the great growths in 1855, château Grand-Puy-Lacoste has held a very fine place in the history of the great Bordeaux wines since the early 16th century. It then belonged to a great family of councillors at the Bordeaux parliament who were passionate about its magnificent gravel terroir, brought out its qualities and established its reputation. Since then, several families have succeeded one another at the head of the estate: the Lacostes, the Saint-Guirons, the Saint-Legiers. In 1930, the history of this great growth was particularly marked by the arrival of Raymond Dupin, an extraordinary notable, an original figure and bon vivant, who remained owner until 1978. Shortly before his death, he handed over this growth, the passion of his life, to the Borie family, whose rigour he knew and whose involvement in the production of the great growths of the Médoc over generations he appreciated.
François-Xavier Borie is the owner and operator. He initiated the complete renovation of the estate’s buildings, the latest stage of which was the construction of a new large barrel cellar and a harvest reception area equipped with the latest grape-sorting techniques. These many very recent investments have further improved the vinification and ageing of the wines of château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, which continue to receive very rigorous and attentive care.
This Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, the product of an exceptional terroir, produces wines of intense colour, with powerful yet velvety tannins, regarded as the perfect example of classic Pauillac. It is a seductive, harmonious wine suited to long ageing.
