The estate

In brief

Located twenty minutes south of Bordeaux in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Bouscaut is a Cru Classé de Graves for both its red and white wines.
The vineyard dates from the 17th century, forms a single block and extends over the commune of Cadaujac. The château, which backs onto a pretty park of centuries-old oaks, is a fine 18th-century chartreuse. Devastated by fire in 1962, the chartreuse was rebuilt in strict respect of the original style. Lucien Lurton bought Bouscaut in 1979 from a group of investors from the USA. A passionate winegrower, established in the Médoc at Château Brane-Cantenac, he owned many Crus Classés in the Bordeaux region. He took the vineyard in hand and built a circular vat room in 1990. Two years later, Sophie Lurton, called on by her father, took the reins of the property. Laurent Cogombles, her husband, joined her in 1997. Since then, the pair have worked to make the most of this fine terroir and in 2010 undertook a complete renovation of the facilities, with the construction of a 300 m2 barrel cellar whose appearance never ceases to astonish: it is clad in staves.
All the equipment, as well as the staff reception area and the tasting rooms, have also just been entirely renovated and reorganised. They bear witness to the dynamism of the estate.
The red wines are made up of a small majority of Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Malbec. They are powerful, harmonious wines with character. The whites are a balanced blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, renowned for their perfume and body as well as their ageing potential.
