The estate

In brief

It was in 1970 that the estate was acquired by the Brunot family.
The Tour de Grenet itself was built in 1850 and gave its name to the vineyard. It is a tower on a square base, 18 metres high, which served as an observation post for the former owner. Going back further in time, this property belonged in the 16th century to the Abbey of Faize. Its site has, moreover, been inhabited for a very long time, since the tower is built on the site of an old Roman villa. Worked flints found in the area are also witnesses to a prehistoric past.
The vineyard sits on one of the highest limestone hillsides in the region, 10 km north-east of the town of Saint-Émilion. It therefore enjoys very good sunshine, and the grapes can be harvested at optimal ripeness. The clay-limestone ground produces a full-bodied wine, full of sap, tannic and for long keeping.
Ageing takes place in vats and casks for 18 months, then in bottle in an underground cellar, cut directly into the rock, whose constant, cool temperature favours the good development of the wines’ bouquet. These cellars, about a hundred metres long, which extend beneath the vineyard, are moreover one of the curiosities of the estate.
The S.C.E.A. J.-B. Brunot et Fils also runs Châteaux Piganeau (A.O.C. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru), Le Gravillot (A.O.C. Lalande-de-Pomerol) and Maledan (A.O.C. Bordeaux Supérieur).
All these wines are distributed either through the négociant trade or directly to private individuals, restaurants and wine merchants, in France and abroad.
