André Peychès (1876-1945) acquired the estate. He devoted himself to the wine and spirits trade, then developed the vineyard and built a crenellated tower. Thus Château Tour Bicheau was born.
Today the fourth and fifth generations of this great winegrowing family work together to constantly raise the reputation of this magnificent property.
The Château Tour Bicheau vineyard is located in Haut-Portets, right in the gravel. Its total planted area is 28 hectares, of which 24 hectares are red grapes and 4 hectares white grapes.
The vineyard is cultivated in the most authentic way possible. All the work is done by hand for the meticulousness and precision of a cultivation that must be of the highest quality possible. The whole estate is also harvested by hand to avoid any oxidation or crushing of the grapes. Through its grape varieties, the nature of the land and the knowledgeable care given to its cultivation, this estate produces a wine of great quality.
Vinification takes place in a modern cellar fully equipped with stainless steel and temperature control. For the reds, vinification is traditional, followed by a rigorous and selective blending. Part of it will be aged in French oak casks, a third of which are renewed each year. For the white, vinification takes place at low temperature with lees stirring that continues during ageing.
This cru won its first gold medal at the Ghent exhibition of 1913 and, more recently, a gold medal at the Concours mondial de Bruxelles in 2000, in 2010 at Bourg, and in 2012 in Paris, Mâcon and Bordeaux. Its wines are highly esteemed abroad, notably in Belgium, where 70% of the production is exported and where the wine was served many times at the royal court.
MM. Daubas, father and son, owners and winegrowers, give as much care to the upkeep of their vineyard as to the vinification and ageing of their wine, to the great pleasure of consumers.
