The estate

In brief

The vineyard of Château Saint-Robert was long renowned for its production of white wine, of which Édouard Féret, in the second edition of Bordeaux et ses Vins (1868), said that it had “finesse, a fine colour, strength, bouquet, in short a set of qualities that make it a particular wine … ”
Château Saint Robert was originally a seigneury, otherwise called a noble house. The first official traces of the estate date from 1686. It then belonged to the old parliamentary noble family Duroy. In 1751, Pierre-Joseph de Pascal bought the estate, which a few years later passed by inheritance to Henri de Pressac. Gradually left to decay, Saint-Robert went through the revolutionary turmoil and the frosts of 1794 in succession. It was reborn in the 19th century to become a true wine château under the impetus of M. Poncet Deville, who introduced the red grape varieties he had previously cultivated on his lands in the Médoc ; in homage to him, a cuvée has borne his name since 1989.
Today the estate comprises 36 ha of vines, 6 ha of which are white varieties. Made mostly from Sauvignon, the white wines are fine and delicate, but they also have the roundness and fullness of Graves wines, and keep well for a few years. The red wines, made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have the sap and elegance of Graves wines and blossom after a few years in bottle.
