The vineyard of Château Rousset is located on south-facing clay-limestone and gravel hillsides, overlooking to the east and south the small valleys of the Bourgeais. The vines selected on this privileged terroir have long produced a renowned wine, one of the best of the Côtes de Bourg, blossoming fully with the years.
Château Rousset is an old noble house of Samonac, which in the 17th and 18th centuries was the property of a family of Bordeaux magistrates, the Mosniers.
From the 18th century its reputation was established as one of the first four crus of the Bourgeais. This reputation, maintained in the 19th century, earned it a place in the 1850 edition of “Bordeaux et ses Vins” as one of the 50 crus of the Bordelais cited under the title of “château”, and in the following editions until the early 20th century as “Premier Cru Bourgeois”.
Today, the estate covers 40 hectares. The carefully sorted harvest is vinified traditionally with vatting times that can last 3 weeks, with daily pumping-overs.
The best cuvées are housed in oak casks, a third of which are renewed each year.
Château Rousset offers a wine with a complex and elegant nose; the palate is rich, warm and well balanced, the happy result of the alliance of respect for the terroir and concern for technological progress.
