Château Roudier enjoys a magnificent position on the southern slopes of the Saint-Georges and Montagne hillsides, opposite the north side of Saint-Émilion. Starting at the boundaries of the latter commune, its beautiful 30-hectare vineyard is made up of carefully selected noble grape varieties, planted on clayey-limestone and clayey-siliceous soils. This magnificent estate produces a supple, fruity wine with a very pleasant bouquet and exquisite finesse, with the generous qualities of a Saint-Émilion. In the 19th century, Château Roudier was divided between the Vacher and Berthon families. On the death of Jean Vacher, mayor of Montagne from 1887 to 1925, Ernest Berthon acquired the other part to unify the château. Involved in the community, he was mayor from 1925 to 1929, and his son-in-law Roger Capdemourlin, a chartered surveyor, ran the estate for around thirty years. His son Jacques subsequently extended the estate by 6 hectares in the 1970s, bringing the total surface area to 42 hectares, including 30 hectares of vines. Trained by Professor E. Peynaud at Bordeaux University, Jacques adopted the best viticultural practices. His passion for wine led him to become involved in various bodies in the sector, such as the Union des Grands Crus Classés, the Jurade de Saint-Émilion and the Académie du Vin. Today, he is assisted by his sons, Thierry and François.
