The estate

In brief

In 1661, Pierre Desmesures de Rauzan, a leading négociant, bought the noble house of Gassies in the parish of Margaux and gave it his name. Tenant of Château Margaux, then of Château Latour, he managed his Margaux property masterfully, making it one of the finest wine estates in the Médoc. The Rauzans and their descendants (including the Baroness de Ségla) remained owners until 1866. The Durand-Dassier and Cruse families followed, before an English company, John Holt Ltd, bought the château in 1960. In 1986, the property was modernised with the construction of a new vat room and a second ageing cellar. In April 1994, the House of Chanel became the owner and undertook a complete renovation of this magnificent estate.
Fine and refined, classified Second Growth in 1855 immediately after Mouton Rothschild, this wine offers incomparable satisfaction, both in the delicacy of its bouquet and in the distinction and finesse of its taste.
The judicious management of the vineyard, the meticulous care that presides over the harvest and vinification, and the rigorously selective policy at blending are the guarantors of an exceptional quality that very often ranks the wines of Château Rauzan-Ségla at the head of their peers in tastings.
