The estate

In brief

It was at the place called Marbuzet, halfway between the towns of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, that the Château Petit Bocq vineyard was created in 1971 by the Souquet family. With an area of barely 2 hectares planted with vines, Château Petit Bocq already won a gold medal in 1982 at the international competition at the Foire de Paris!
Eleven years later, M. Jacques Lagneaux, won over by this vineyard, acquired it. The Lagneaux family devoted itself fervently to extending the vineyard and to restoring and modernising an old cellar located in the hamlet of Pez. Doctor Gaëtan Lagneaux oversees it with passion and rigour.
Today, the vineyard is spread over more than 90 plots, in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation area, on gravelly and gravel-clay rises and knolls with excellent natural drainage. This “scattering” gives the wines of Château Petit Bocq a certain originality, since each plot is planted with the most suitable grape variety, cultivated according to the needs inherent in its location and harvested individually at the opportune moment. However, two plots form the core of the estate: one of 3 hectares is located at the place called Marbuzet, the other of the same size extends over the Hourton-Pomys-Houissant-Tiouleyre plateau.
The vine is managed according to rigorous principles: reasonably dosed plant protection treatments, green work, leaf removal… Harvested only by hand at their optimal stage of ripeness, the grapes are quickly taken to the vat room to avoid the risks of oxidation, and strictly sorted so as to keep only the berries worthy of this high-flying Saint-Estèphe. Macerations take place in small stainless steel vats, each of which separately receives the fruit of one grape variety and one plot. The wine then ages slowly for 12 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are renewed each year. The entire exemplary production of Château Petit Bocq is bottled at the château, without filtration.
