The estate

In brief

The coat of arms of Château Mauvezin recalls the union of the city of Saint-Émilion with the English crown, which in 1199, by the Charter of the Falaise, granted the Jurade its administrative, judicial and financial autonomy. The rights thus acquired favoured the growth of the vineyard under the English occupation. Close to the city, Mauvezin was without doubt served to the benevolent occupier. The antiquity of Château Mauvezin goes back to the 18th century, when it appeared on the Libourne tax roll as a wine bourdieu belonging to the de Fontémoing family. A family of négociants, they held many properties until the end of the 19th century and gave Libourne a few mayors and jurats, and even a secretary to the King.
After various successions, always keeping its rank, the cru became the property of Monsieur Pierre Cassat in 1968, whose family has cultivated vines in the jurisdiction for over a century.
Olivier Cassat is his worthy successor, and Mauvezin is his passion. He invests regularly in his working tools, in the vineyard as in the cellar, in technology as in wine tourism.
It is true that he always welcomes customers and visitors with pleasure, as this wine tourist testifies : ” This is what you look for when you come to Saint-Emilion, to meet a passionate person and discover the backstage of the greatest wines… “.
