The estate

In brief

Château Livran is one of the oldest and most pleasant residences of the Médoc. The archives attribute the lordship of Livran to the Goth family, one of whose members, Bertrand de Goth, became pope under the name Clement V.
During the English occupation, the English and French partisans of this family disputed Livran, which was awarded by Charles VII to the French heirs of the De Goths, the De Bordeaux. It then belonged to the Manihan de Rams and passed by marriage to the Du Périer de Larsan. Having remained on his lands during the Revolution, a Du Périer was imprisoned in the Fort du Hâ and freed by armed villagers.
Château Livran remained in the same family until 1889, when the Marquis de Lambert des Granges, a direct descendant of the Du Périers, sold it to the English company James L. Denman & Co., which remained its owner for more than half a century.
Finally, in the middle of the 20th century, Robert Godfrin, a French businessman returned from the colonies, took over the estate, by then a “Cru Bourgeois”. In 2013, Edwige and Olivier Michon, charmed by this delightful property in a single block, a majestic building surrounded by its vineyard and ancient woods, took over Livran, firmly determined to restore the reputation of this atypical, promising terroir. The replanting schedule was launched at the same time as the construction of a new vinification building adjoining the château. The vat room, combining concrete and stainless steel, will produce an elegant, fruity wine true to its terroir, before the French oak barrels of the cellar give it a smooth, discreet oak influence over twelve months.
