The estate

In brief

It was in February 1998 that Bernard Magrez took charge of this property to continue, with passion and dynamism, the development of this wine estate.
This growth is admirably well exposed on the fine gravel rises of the village, not far from the estuary.
The vines are pruned low enough for the grapes to benefit as much as possible from the heat of the permeable soil, made up of small pebbles that warm up in the sun by day and release their heat during the night.
The wine of château Les Grands Chênes is aged in oak barrels for about 18 months: depending on the vintage, it stays there for a longer or shorter time. In this way Les Grands Chênes, whose vinosity does not preclude finesse, acquires roundness, tannin and various aromatic nuances.
Entered in various agricultural competitions, the wines of château Les Grands Chênes have won numerous diplomas and awards, whether in Paris, Mâcon, Bordeaux or at the Blaye-Bourg competition. At the revision of the classification of the Crus Bourgeois of the Médoc, château Les Grands Chênes obtained classification in the “Crus Bourgeois Supérieurs” category.
Château Les Grands Chênes was awarded the Prix d’Excellence of the Masters of Wine of London for its 1990 vintage. At the most recent Concours Agricoles de Paris, château Les Grands Chênes won a gold medal for its 95, 97, 98, 99, 2000 and 2003 vintages. Finally, the château was classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classification of the Crus Bourgeois of the Médoc of 2003.
A growth that is unquestionably on the rise!
