The estate

In brief

Surrounded by the Grands Crus Classés of the appellation, the vineyard of Château Léognan is set in the heart of a bucolic estate, backing onto the Landes forest.
In 2007, Philippe and Chantal Miecaze fell in love with this estate, which charmed each of them in their own field of activity: Philippe for this prestigious vineyard and Chantal for all the equestrian facilities that allowed her to house her own horses and develop a horse-boarding business at the gates of Bordeaux.
The vineyard was first planted when a rich outcrop of gravelly sand was discovered near the lake at the end of the 19th century. This gravel terroir is the origin of the finesse of the wines of Pessac-Léognan, an appellation recognised in 1987, comprising all the Grands Crus Classés, including Château Haut-Brion, the jewel of the appellation, classified in 1855.
Soil analysis revealed 8 micro-terroirs due to a different geology on each plot. Plot-based cultivation was immediately put in place in the vineyard. Each plot, worked and vinified individually, thus expresses the best of its potential.
The hand of man, omnipresent, bears witness to attention at every moment.
Philippe Miecaze’s objective is to respect the fruit and the balance in order to produce a refined, elegant, feminine wine. All the vintages currently on the market have been rewarded with gold medals and recognised by the trade magazines.
Having perfectly restored the château, built between the 17th and 19th centuries, Philippe and Chantal are today devoted to the recognition of their wine, Château Léognan, as one of the best Pessac-Léognan, worthy of the finesse of the neighbouring Crus Classés.
