The estate

In brief

Since the death of Mme Lafon de Camarsac in 1880, Château Lafon-Rochet has had a succession of owners, a circumstance hardly conducive to the smooth running of an estate. It was in 1960 that Guy Tesseron bought Lafon-Rochet. He undertook a complete restoration of the land and the plantings. The house was in ruins, and he had a chartreuse built in the purest 18th-century style. As in the time of M. de Lafon, counsellor at the Parlement of Bordeaux in the 17th century, and of his direct successors, Château Lafon-Rochet thus regained the purity of lines drawn by its first architect and masterfully restored in the nobility of stone and the strict elegance of slate.
The old manuals very often mention the prestigious vintages of Lafon-Rochet, whose land, as is known, is separated to the north from Château Lafite only by the width of a road, and from Cos d’Estournel by a simple path. It is therefore unsurprising that it enjoys the exceptional qualities of its illustrious neighbours and that its wines are acknowledged to have great finesse and a delicate bouquet. Its current owners never cease to work at maintaining such prestige.
