Château la Croix Davids

At the end of the French Revolution, Château La Croix-Davids was confiscated and sold to a Bordeaux notable.
In 1800, it was acquired by the Cavignac-Birot family, whose present owners are the descendants. A long family line of winegrowers therefore preceded Annie Birot-Meneuvrier, and managed to pass on the ancestral know-how accumulated over the generations. Today, steeped in this past, Annie Birot and Didier Meneuvrier cultivate the vineyard with a tradition of quality, sacrificing nothing to the myth of technology.
Château La Croix-Davids enjoys an excellent geographical position, set on one of the highest plateaux of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, and has all its advantages.
Close to Bourg-sur-Gironde and the Gironde estuary, the vines enjoy very fine sunshine. The clay-limestone soil and the slope of the hillsides ensure ideal natural drainage. This very particular microclimate, mild at the end of winter and in spring, followed by very sunny summers, favours optimal ripeness of the grapes well before the first mists of autumn. The Merlot-dominant blend gives the wines a lovely suppleness, and the result is festive, spontaneous wines.
Annie and Didier Meneuvrier share responsibilities within the vineyard. Annie, passionate about her work, takes on commercial and administrative management. Didier, a winegrower at heart, surrounded by his colleagues, takes care of running the vineyard and the vinification.
Blending and tasting sessions are occasions for collective decisions, in which their son Louis, who is gradually becoming part of the life of the estate, has recently taken part.
He also looks after the communication and marketing of the château’s wines.
Didier, a man of nature, is passionate about beekeeping. He is also developing the cultivation of saffron, a rare spice. Annie, a music lover and art enthusiast, beautifully combines her wine with her cultural activities.
