Originally from the Oise, where they ran a large cereal-growing estate, the Secret family settled in the Médoc in 1968, at Château Bournac.
Driven by the same passion for vines and wine, Didier and Hubert decided to rent bare land to plant their first vine and then created the G.A.E.C. de Cazaillan in 1980.
Each year, they enlarged their vineyard, which, patiently built up in this way, now covers an area of 29 hectares, planted with the traditional grape varieties of the Médoc.
In 1987, Didier and Hubert Secret built a first cellar themselves, which they have continued to develop as the vineyard has expanded and as their ageing and maturing methods have evolved. Indeed, for some years now, the wine of Château La Chandellière has been aged in oak barrels.
So much patience and personal investment, in both vineyard and winery, was rewarded in 1989, when Château La Chandellière was admitted to the rank of the Crus Bourgeois.
