The estate

In brief

Located in the hamlet of By around a delightful 18th-century residence, Greysac can pride itself on having always attracted exceptional personalities to its site. Georges Héreil, a brilliant engineer who was one of the designers of the Caravelle aircraft, bought the pretty house of Greysac and twenty hectares of vines at By in 1960. In 1974, Château Greysac was sold to Baron François de Gunzburg, who created a holding company with the Italian Agnelli family, owners of Ferrari and Fiat. At the end of 2012, it was Jean Guyon, already owner of Domaine Rollan de By, who bought Château Greysac, making it possible to bring together two magnificent vineyards on the very best Graves terroirs of the Médoc. The vines of Château Greysac, where Merlot represents two thirds of the blend, have now reached a very respectable age, which allows the estate to make aromatic, generous wines that are both distinguished and complex. This Cru Bourgeois has constantly progressed to become one of those consistent Médocs that almost never disappoint. The latest vintages are delicious. The wines: the 2010 is firm but well built, with good fruit and tannins that give it good potential. The 2009 vintage is fine and reveals a lovely ample substance with pretty notes of liquorice, characterising this well-concentrated wine. The finish is surprising, fresh, fruity and spicy. The balance and freshness of 2008 have been particularly successful at Greysac. The wine is subtle, with delicate tannins, offering a delicious classic style. The 2007 has for its part come together and stands out for a subtle aromatic expression, between crisp fruit and discreet oak.
