The estate

In brief

Under the Ancien Régime, Gourran was the seat of the barony of Capian.
The first Lord of Capian was messire Jehan de Chauvin, knight, counsellor to the King and president of the Parlement of Bordeaux. Then this lordship passed to messire Charles de Moncuq, esquire, lord of Capian and of the noble houses of La Mothe and Bédat, before becoming the property of the de Luxe family.
In 1648, the “Fronde Bordelaise” was raging. During this fratricidal war, Josué de Luxe, lord of Gourran, was dispossessed of his estate.
Then the estate had many owners, all aristocrats, until the middle of the 19th century.
Today, Château de Gourran, whose present building was constructed in 1760, belongs to a company represented by M. Peter Find Andersen.
Its single-block vineyard is located on a high point of the commune, facing south-south-west.
