A family property for four generations, château Franc Maillet is located at the place called Maillet, from which it takes its name. It is one of the 4 châteaux of the G. Arpin vineyards.
The story begins on the return from the First World War, when Jean-Baptiste Arpin bought one hectare of Pomerol on a life annuity. Through hard work, he built up the property by acquiring new land in Pomerol, Lalande-de-Pomerol (Vieux Château Gachet) and Saint-Émilion (château la Fleur Chantecaille).
For its part, the Arvouet family has also cultivated vines in Montagne Saint-Émilion for several generations (château Gachon).
Guy Arpin and Sylviane Arvouet married in 1951, taking over all the properties and, in their turn, developing them.
In 1994 their son Gérard took up the family torch. He decided to focus on the quality of production and invested in ultra-modern equipment. Since 1999, his son Gaël has joined him.
While the time is still one of modernising the facilities (renovation of the Pomerol cellar in 2008, of the Montagne cellar in 2012 with small temperature-controlled stainless steel vats), the two men nevertheless continue to increase the area of the estate with the purchase of an additional 6 ha of Montagne Saint-Émilion in 2010.
Thanks to their complementarity, they put all their heart into serving the vines and the cellar. Always in pursuit of excellence, they adapt continually so that each vintage is a success. Thus, the family passion continues…
Château Franc Maillet is a wine all roundness and finesse, with a fine dark ruby hue. It gives off the warmth of gravel and sand and has a good balance on the palate with a lingering note of liquorice.
