The Château Ferrand vineyard, one of the oldest in the region, extends over the southern slopes of the Pomerol plateau, next to the crus of Nénin and La Commanderie. It is a family property bought in 1934 by the father of the present owner. Before the war, this estate, in a single block, was enlarged and reconstituted with a judicious planting of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Its subsoil, as the word “Ferrand” indicates, contains an abundance of iron residues, which give Pomerol wine its so characteristic taste.
Rationally vinified, the wine of Ferrand is supple and very delicate; it resembles certain Médocs. Its fine consistency and great finesse make it, quite rightly, appreciated both in France and abroad.
Monsieur Henry Gasparoux is also the owner of Château Haut-Ferrand, in the same appellation.
