It was on 7 August 1862, after the dismemberment of Château Figeac, that M. Giraud, ancestor of the Leydet family, bought the Rouyedinat farm for his son. The estate then grew from 1870 to the present day to reach a total area of 7.8 hectares.
Then in 1886, Marie-Amélie Grenier de Nabineau, a friend of the family, gave the estate the name Valois.
As a footnote, in each generation the only daughter who inherits the estate changes her surname, while the name Valois passes through successive generations.
Since 1978, the property has produced a second wine, Château La Croix Saint-Vincent.
Today, it is Frédéric Leydet who continues his father’s work. Born on the property, he settled there in 1996, very attached to his vines and the land of his ancestors. He created a new cuvée from vines more than 60 years old, vinified entirely in new oak casks, 100% Merlot, which best represents the excellence of the Pomerol terroir.
