Marc and Laurence Vincent, owners of Domaine de la Paleine in Le Puy-Notre-Dame (49), acquired Château de Pasquette at the end of 2009 and made their first harvest in 2010.
Located at the foot of the south slope of Saint-Émilion, Château de Pasquette already appeared on the map drawn up in 1762 by Belleyme, geographer-engineer to King Louis XIV. Still listed in 1888 in the atlas of the Gironde published by Féret, the cru has shown remarkable consistency in its production.
Its name is very old and comes from a medicinal plant whose ability to heal wounds Olivier de Serres highlighted in ” le théatre d’agriculture et mesnage des champs ” in 1625. Flowering at Easter, it was commonly called the “pasquette” and today the daisy (pâquerette).
The vineyard is in a single block, on light soils over a clay base that give low yields and thus ensure fine concentration and great quality.
Cultivation and vinification are overseen by Marc and Laurence Vincent, with ageing in barrels. Made from hand-harvested grapes, the wines of Château de Pasquette have a great deal of mellowness, delicacy and a delicious bouquet. They express their great quality fairly quickly, but can also bear the weight of years in a good cellar. In a constant concern for improvement, the cellar and vat room have recently been modernised.
