Formerly owned by the La Rochefoucauld family in the 17th century, Château de Fieuzal is one of the oldest and finest Grands Crus of Graves de Léognan.
Somewhat neglected during the Revolution, the estate was reborn at the end of the First Empire, which left it the legacy of the bee emblem (today’s Abeille de Fieuzal).
Located 15 km from Bordeaux, the beautiful vineyard of Château de Fieuzal sits admirably on the highest and best-exposed gravel rises of the commune, on the right bank of the Eau Blanche stream.
Thanks to the careful choice of grape varieties and the care lavished on the vines, it produces a generous wine distinguished by great finesse, a velvety texture and a delightful bouquet, which ranks it among the crus of great breeding and the most sought-after of the region’s great red wines.
The estate also produces white wines that can be considered among the greatest of the appellation.
“L’Abeille de Fieuzal”, the second wine of the estate, which is made in both red and white, comes from a selection of young vines from the plots of Château de Fieuzal.
The wines of Château de Fieuzal reach their peak after 8 to 10 years for the whites and 10 to 15 years for the reds, before their full finesse and charm can be appreciated. Nevertheless, it is not unusual to find fifty-year-old bottles in good vintages.
This magnificent vineyard, together with that of neighbouring Château Haut-Gardère, was bought by an Irish family, Brenda and Lochlann Quinn, in 2001.
