The estate

In brief

The history of Ferrand since the 17th century belongs to the great tradition of the wine estates of the Bordeaux region, those that made its reputation. Since its origins, Château de Ferrand has been a family estate. The château is a perfect illustration of the spirit of balance and classical rigour, with its central gallery on the courtyard linking the two square wings. A visit is a real delight for the visitor, charmed by the beauty of the place, the calm and serenity, the fine arrangement of the château, woods and vines, and the commanding view.
Today, the estate is chaired by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët, assisted by her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët. They are building for Ferrand a development project based on the demand for quality, openness and the showcasing of the know-how of the estate and its appellation.
Château de Ferrand is one of the highest vineyards in the Saint-Émilion appellation, planted at between 46 and 100 m above sea level. Located at one end of the limestone plateau, its edge overlooks a bend in the Dordogne valley, promoting the drying of morning dews and rain through its exposure to east winds.
The climate coupled with the diversity of the soils underlines the complexity and great potential of the terroirs of Château de Ferrand for producing structured, complex and elegant wines. Aromatic freshness and tannic structure are sought, as is the expression of respect for its terroir.
True to the wines of its appellation, Ferrand has a dark Bordeaux-red colour and an intense nose of ripe and spiced fruit. The attack on the palate is powerful, the tannins are coated. It evolves towards notes of red fruit and a long, elegant finish.
