Anchored on the heights of the Bel Air plateau, in the heart of the Illats commune, Château de Callac is one of the oldest wine estates in the region, founded in 1773. It benefits from a privileged terroir, where the harmonious combination of sky, sun and earth give the wines a great finesse of expression.
The vineyard, recently taken over by Matthieu Gufflet, covers around 30 hectares, of which 25 hectares are planted with red grape varieties and 5 hectares with white grape varieties. The gravelly soils, resting on a well-drained clay-gravel subsoil, provide ideal conditions for growing vines.
Vinification is carried out in the traditional way, using modern equipment for precise temperature control. The red wines undergo a long fermentation in stainless steel vats, while the prestige cuvées are vinified and matured in oak barrels. The white wines, vinified partly in barrels, are distinguished by their freshness and ageing potential.
Château de Callac wines combine power, elegance and balance. The whites are aromatic and lively, and can be enjoyed young or after a few years’ ageing. The reds, with their supple, harmonious tannins, are characterised by their fine structure and finesse.
Since 2024, the estate has held HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3 certification, testifying to its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Château de Callac also welcomes its guests to the Graves region, in seven spacious, refined rooms and suites designed to offer comfort and serenity. It’s the ideal place for a stay in the countryside, a seminar or a private event, thanks to a tasting room with a panoramic view of the wine storehouse, flexible spaces and an unspoilt natural setting.
