The estate

In brief

The Château Coufran estate belonged to the Marquis de Verthamon, then to the Célérier family. In 1924, it was acquired by M. Louis Miailhe, who devoted the greatest care to rebuilding the vineyard.
Today, frequently described as the “Pomerol of the Médoc”, the originality of Château Coufran lies in its geography and in the choice, at first sight unusual, of its grape varieties. The rows of its vines, almost exclusively Merlot, climb the rises overlooking the mouth of the Gironde. The early ripening of this grape works wonders on this terroir of dry or sandy gravel, particularly well exposed.
Thanks to traditional ageing in oak barrels, Château Coufran is synonymous with a fleshy, full-bodied, supple wine with a touch of ripe fruit when still young. With its excellent quality/price ratio, Château Coufran ranks among the leading unmissable growths of the Haut-Médoc appellation. A meticulous selection makes it possible to produce a second wine, Château La Rose Maréchale, a name that comes from an estate merged with that of Coufran.
Château Coufran is a member of the Académie du Vin de Bordeaux and of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.
