Château Coucy has an origin that goes back to the 15th century; it bears the name of an old English family settled in Aquitaine.
A chapel designed by Viollet-le-Duc overlooks the rises of this estate, in a single block, in the commune of Montagne Saint-Émilion in the Gironde. Located in the extension of Saint-Émilion, Château Coucy occupies a privileged terroir of clay-limestone hillsides facing due south.
Under the impetus of the Bonfils family, who bought Château Coucy in 2007, every means has been used to create a wine of great quality, in the purest Bordeaux tradition: hand harvesting, destemming, sorting table, ageing in oak casks…
Owner-growers since 1870, the Bonfils, historically based in Languedoc-Roussillon, also own Château Puy Bardens, in Cambes, in the Côtes de Bordeaux Cadillac AOC.
Its estate spreads its 20 hectares over clay-limestone soils.
Its wine comes from a quality terroir where noble grape varieties have been selected according to the subsoil and sunshine, which ensures a wine of great class that ages very well, giving off spicy scents beneath a very pure ruby colour.
The Maurèze family also owns Château Puy-Arnaud in the commune of Belvès-de-Castillon.
