In the heart of Pomerol, Clos Bel Air began its history in the 12th century. The parcel of just over 2 hectares passed for a time under the banner of a foreign group before returning to the colours of Gironde in the summer of 2022. Since then, Clos Bel Air has returned to tradition, while innovating to preserve its terroir. Clos Bel Air and its 2.35 hectares of vines made up of 96% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc enjoy an exceptional terroir. The château’s location on the western edge of the famous Pomerol plateau means that it is able to cultivate rich, precious soil for growing vines. The south/south-east-facing vineyards represent a unique and exceptional geological site, made up of fine gravel, clay and sand, which shapes the Merlot and Cabernets in an elegant, full-bodied, fresh and racy way. The subsoil, made up of blue clay, is rich in iron and has the unique ability to retain water and release it to the plant during dry periods. This natural regulation system allows the grape varieties to express density, velvety texture and great delicacy. A soil characteristic that is unique to Pomerol and very rare elsewhere in the Bordeaux vineyards.
